What is the 2014 Worcester Dismantling Racism training?
2014 Worcester Dismantling Racism training is a 9-session workshop in which groups of 15-35 participants and 8 facilitators will meet 1 afternoon per month for 4 hours. Members of the Worcester Immigrant Coalition and other grassroots social justice organizations such as Stone Soup, Worcester Roots, Solidarity And Green Economy came together to make this in-depth training accessible and pertinent to Worcester area residents.
What subjects are covered in the workshop?
Workshop topics include: The Context of Dismantling Racism Work, Assumptions, Developing a Shared Language and Analysis, A History of the Construction of Race and Racism, From Internalized Racist Oppression to Empowerment,From Internalized White Supremacy to Anti-Racist White Ally, Anti-Racist Organizational Development, Moving Racial Justice Organizing, Resource.
Who can take the workshop?
Anyone can take the 2014 Worcester Dismantling Racism training. We are inclusive of all genders, races, ethnicities, sexualities, incomes, occupations, ages, religions, and abilities. We ask that you be 14 years or older. If you have questions about your eligibility, email us.
Where and when will the workshop be?
The workshop will meet once a month for four hours on the second Saturday starting April 12, 2014 at Stone Soup, 4 King Street, Worcester, MA.
What is the time commitment like?
Each meeting will be four hours long. We ask participants to make a commitment to do their best to attend each workshop for the full time.
How much does the workshop cost?
We are committed to making the training as accessible as possible, and free if needed. However, there are costs associated with running the workshop (materials, childcare, interpreting) and so we ask that you donate what you can at the end of the workshop. Please give what you can so that this training can continue to exist in our community!
What actually happens during a workshop?
The workshop is facilitated by several facilitators who have facilitated anti-racism trainings before. We use a curriculum that consists of various activities such as small and large group discussions, free writes, and other interactive activities. Each week the curriculum will engage a different topic (see question 2 for a list of topics).
What do I have to do in order to take the workshop?
